Since Carola International went from being a regular fan website to a blog, I feel freer to make personal comments about what's going on around Carola and her career, and I would just like to say that I find her remarks unnecessary, totally uncalled for and wonder how they could be interpreted by her younger fans.
The remarks also cast a shadow on the good work she and Hoppets Stjärna were hoping to do for Haiti. It should also be said that the newspaper Aftonbladet carries a responsibility for changing the narrative of her visit to the country as well.
Well, let us keep an opened mind. After all, the quotes are from Aftonbladet ;-) However, many christians of today share the beliefs the article describes. It is not the time or place to discuss the writings of the Bible - but if the mission is to save non-believers, it is a major mistake! Faith comes from the heart, not from scaring people.... To a believer the comments from Carola means something else than how they are interpreted by others.
ReplyDeleteTo all of you out there - please don't let this keep you from supporting the effort in Haiti, I hope to see you all on Febuary 25!
I agree with you to a certain extent. Not all believers agree with her statement (the bishop Koskinen made his own comments in Aftonbladet today) -- I think there are certain groups of Christians that believe they live in the end of times, and Carola might be one of them..?
ReplyDeleteYou are correct, sorry about that. I voted "No" in your poll. When not providing support for others in a stressful time, it is better to say nothing, which she never does :-) However, I believe that to Carola, this is the truth and to her, it is actually a positive thing, since it the start of something better - the new kingdom - and I don't think she thinks about people getting upset or hurt.
ReplyDeleteI am a Christian, just like Carola, and I agree with her that we are living in the end times. In the Bible Jesus mentions big earthquakes (Luke 21:11), among other things, as a part of this. And I think it's important to stand up for what we believe in and not be ashamed of that because of what other people might think. We should definitly respect that other people could have other opinions, but we have the right to ours, too. Some people might think this sounds scary, but the intention isn't to scare people, but to give an answer to what is happening and why. If you don't want to listen to it that's up to you, and if you do want to listen that's up to you, too. To me it's obvious that Carola isn't forcing her opinion on anyone else, and as long as you are not doing that I think it's okey to speak your mind. One of the things I love about Carola is that she isn't afraid of what people might think of her and she stands up for what she believes in, and that makes her a good rolemodel.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to sound disrespectful, but Christians have since the beginning of their religion believed they were living the end times. But everybody is entitled to their beliefs, my concern was that statements like these could potentially hurt the good work Carola and Hoppets Stjarna was planning to do for Haiti.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about that, and I think it's because some of the signs for the end times have been there from the beginning. Persecution, for example. Jesus also compares the end times with how it's like when a woman is about to give birth. At first it goes slowly and then at the end just as she's about to give birth it goes faster. So you could say when it comes to the end times that some signs have been coming for a long time, but when it's getting closer to the end there are more signs and they are coming more close together. And if you look at the signs today I would say that it's close to the end now, and I believe that the rapture probably will happen during my lifetime (I'm 21).
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't understand why Carolas statement could hurt the work that they are doing!?
It shouldn't matter what a person believes when they want to help in a situation like this. It shouldn't matter if you're a Christian believing the end is near, a muslim, a buddhist or if you don't believe in a God or have a faith of some kind at all. We need everybody's help and we can't afford to be narrow minded about that someone might not believe the same thing that we do and due to that make it seem that that persons help is worth less. And I feel that no one should feel like they can't be open about what they believe.
@Erica
ReplyDeleteWith deepest respect of your believes, can you please tell me, why would anyone who belives in the Biblical "End of Days" try to change "God's will" by helping to those people?
It is not God's will that the people of Haiti, or any other people for that matter, should suffer. Just because it is said in the Bible that, for example, big earthquakes is one of the signs doesn't mean that God thinks it's a good idea to send some extra suffering and pain before the world comes to an end. It is also said that there will be persecution, wars and that the Antichrist will rule and that people will follow him. This isn't positive things at all. It isn't things that God feel is good, it's actually the other way around. The world is getting more evil and more bad things are happening due to that. So we need people who want to do good and help others. We can't just ignore everything because we believe that we're living in the end times. We still have responsibilities and we need to spread love and goodness. God works against the evil, not for it, and He will defeat all evil. And if we are on His side we should definiteley help those in need as much as we possibly can.
ReplyDeleteThank you Erica :)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes.
